Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme

A Hundred grand bonus for just 40K

We make no secret of the fact that we like Mitsubishi’s Triton — a bakkie that offers huge value and brilliant performance (it’s still the quickest 4-cylinder turbodiesel double-cab we have ever road tested), it ticks all the right boxes that should make it a first choice. And now Mitsubishi has brought back its Xtreme package to just add to that allure, with a hundred grand bonus of special kit thrown it at just R40K over the regular list price for a bog stock flagship Triton.

Packing a significant amount of new kit aimed squarely at the adventurous and extreme lifestyle set, Xtreme additionally gains a host of interior upgrades, including Android Auto and CarPlay. You may notice straight-up that there’s a fresh new bumper and grill combo to start the Extreme transformation, which is limited to the more than capable 4x4 Double Cab Auto.

But that’s not nearly all you get. A host of most practical Xtreme add-ons include a Bosal tow bar, Ezydown hydraulic dampers for the lockable tailgate and there’s a rubberised load box under the tonneau to mask your load from prying eyes too, while a black bold  black Kekosport style bar behind the cab and there are special supports ready to accommodate whatever roof rack you need to apply.

Then there are the boast bits — that distinctive new black bumper and grill combo are the headline acts backed by a bonnet protector and headlight covers, Xtreme branding, 4x4 stickers, door handle scuff cups and to finish it all off, a set of so-cool A-line Hazard alloys are shod with ready to explore Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain tyres and framed by a cool Extreme fender flare kit.

On the inside there is a Sport automatic shift knob and Android Auto and of course both Apple CarPlay are ready and armed mirror your smart device onto Triton Extreme’s in-bakkie infotainment screen.

All that is of course over and above Triton's comprehensive active and passive safety kit that includes Electronic Off-Road Assistance-equipped Super Select II 4x4 with Hill Start and Descent, Automatic Stability and Traction Controls; 28 degree approach angle, 23 degree departure and 25 degree break-over angles to conquer even the most extreme off-road driving conditions.

Add seven airbags system for increased safety for every seat, while Mitsubishi’s advanced RISE Mitsubishi RISE Body Construction with Side Impact Protection and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Triton Xtreme Double Cab 4WD Auto  is covered by the original Mitsubishi Warranty of 3 years 100 000km Warranty,  5-year 90 000 km Service Plan and a 5-year unlimited Roadside Assistance and ready to be yours at  R640K.

So there you have it — never mind that among Triton’s many other virtues, even a stock one will set you apart from the madding crowd flocking to the popular makes. And now Xtreme makes itself even more unique. Are you sure you still want to just be another face in that crowd…?
