Killarney poised for Gumtree world finale

Cape Town is bracing itself for this weekend’s Gumtree World Rallycross, where a recipe for no-holds-barred, all-action awaits you at the Killarney International Raceway’s rallycross track at the final event of the WRX season with scores to be settled and championship positions to be decided. World Rallycross combines the best of rallying, circuit and stock car racing blasted into an adrenalin charged non-stop format that delivers extreme action between cars may seem like your familiar Audi S1, Fiesta, Hyundai i20, Peugeot 208, Megane and Golf hatchbacks at first sight.

WRX machines are however stripped-out re-skinned 440kW 800Nm 1300kg carbon fibre monster racers are quicker than F1 cars and driven by among the finest drivers on the planet on tight, gnarly part-tarmac part-dirt stadium tracks with one compulsory Joker Lap on a shortler loop and nasty little jumps where the cars regularly become airborne in a quick-fire series of four lap heats and races. Race action like you cannot experience anywhere else.

Last year 30 000 fans packed into Killarney's specially built stands to be treated to incredible action and this weekend will be no different, for while Swede Johann Kristofersson has already clinched his second World Rallycross title on the trot, the rest of them have nothing to lose have everything to gain and just one chance to get it.
It all happens at Killarney with heats on Saturday before the big action on Sunday with WRX, RX2 and local support races amid a full program of nonstoip on and off-track action. Ticket prices start at R430 and R750 on the grandstands, with hospitality packages from R2500 - book at www.ticketpros.co.za
