Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series

Meet AMG's mad 535kW über-Mercedes

Mercedes-AMG has unleashed the 535kW biturbo V8 GT3 race tech rich 'Granturismo from Affalterbach’ GT Black Series.

The latest in in a long line of ultimate Black editions continues a heady AMG tradition of ultimate Mercedes supercars thanks in part to a 55kW power gain blamed on a new free-spinning 180-degree offset flat-plane crankshaft.

There's also a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers with larger compressor wheels to offset the new crank’s natural compromise of a lack of bottom-end torque and endow the four-litre biturbo with an ample 800Nm between 2000 and 6000rpm.

Set apart by a more striking and effective grille, a heavily vented carbon bonnet and fenders, and a monster wing at the back, they’ve gone as far as to use lightweight thin glass for the windows of the carbonfibre-rich all-aluminium Black Edition to see 100km/h in 3.2 seconds and a 325km/h top end

Add coil-over suspension with adjustable spring preload, forged aluminium wishbones with backlash-free spherical plain bearings at the rear for ultimate track and camber control; AMG Ride Control adaptive damping to actively adapt each corner of the car to Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus modes and nine stage traction control with ESP-off.

AMG GT Black Series retains a certain level of everyday comfort with orange contrasting stitched Nappa leather clad carbon bucket seats more, carbon trim an optional AMG Track Package complete with titanium bolt-in rollcage, four-point belts and a fire extinguisher.

There's no news on build numbers or price yet, but AMG GT Black Series is headed to SA and judging by the prices by its predecessors these days, this one’s a sure investment bet too...
