Long awaited bakkie escapes on the web

Jeep's much anticipated new Gladiator bakkie has been leaked by the brand's own website, with these media images allegedly taken off the company page. The rugged new Wrangler JL-based pickup was initially expected to be called the Scrambler and carries near-identical bodywork to the Wrangler until after the C-pillar, where a 1,6m-long load bed has been added. Gladiator is expected to be powered by a 3.6-litre petrol V6 with either an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox, with a 3-litre diesel to follow by 2020. Gladiator will carry Wrangler’s four-wheel drive system and optional electronic differential locks, while these images suggest Rubicon and Sahara trims too, in double-cab only and with the choice of a solid roof or a removable soft-top when officially revealed at the Los Angeles motor show later this month.
