Isuzu emerges from lockdown with a facelift

Isuzu’s versatile seven-seater mu-X sport ute has gone under the knife to and will emerge from lockdown with a pretty new facelift that stretches from a cool new look and cabin enhancements to some neat new technical improvements too.

It’s more than just bolder new look — mu-X borrow its D-Max bakkie sibling’s Brake Override System, but the biggest change come courtesy of an aggro new radiator grille slotted between the existing daytime running auto-levelling full LED projector headlights atop a restyled front bumper with a colour coded top and contrasting gloss black bottom and new fog lamp bezels for a more robust and dynamic appearance.

Add new tail lights and a similar new rear the rear bumper treatment, two-tone silver and black roof rails and finish it all off with striking new gloss black finish 18-inch gloss black diamond-cut alloy wheels, and mu-X becomes a far more sophisticated proposition.

Step inside to find new pano black finishes in the extremely versatile flexible folding seven-seat cabin with a multitude of storage solutions, while ambient lighting brings a new mu-X nighttime appeal. A leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel controls the eight-inch Bluetooth, audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functional colour touchscreen infotainment with a nine-inch screen an option. An electronic climate control system caters for all occupants and there’s keyless entry and start with immobiliser and alarm too.

Powered by Isuzu's proven and reliable 130kW 380Nm 3-litre intercooled turbodiesel four-pot mated to a six-speed automatic, mu-X has a more than handy three-tonne towing capacity for any lifestyle owner. That new Brake Override System linked to the ABS meanwhile restricts accelerator input if the brakes are applied at the same time to reduce emergency stopping distance. 

That's over and above Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Emergency Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Start and Descent Control and there’s even a reversing camera with audible sensors. Passive safety is enhanced by dual front, side and full-length curtain airbags, front seat pre-tensioner seatbelts and a high tensile steel passenger safety cell.

Buyers have access to a wide range of accessories to personalise the mu-X, from an optional mechanical diff-lock for the 4x4 and 4x2 models to a storage box located beneath the luggage compartment, a tow bar, bonnet guard, weather guard kit for the windows, front spoiler set and rear bumper scuff plate and more, while mu-X comes with Isuzu Complete Care including a five-year/120 000km warranty, Roadside Assistance and a five-year 90 000km Service Plan 15 000km or 12 months.
