Sharp new KIA to bring style, value

Meet KIA’s latest SUV — the all-new Seltos is promised to bring sophistication, cutting-edge technology and leading safety features to the global compact sport ute segment. Taking a somewhat different take on traditional KIA styling, the Indian and Korean-made utility appears to take its styling from American pickup cues, but is set to be powered by a choice of highly-efficient Smartstream petrol and diesel engines in what promises to be a true value offering.

The angular newcomer sports a wide tiger nose grille, but stands apart by a robust, rising shoulder line, intricate LED DRL headlights and LED taillights with 3D multi-layer indicators and rides on a variety of crystal cut alloys. A chic, youthful, tech-savvy cabin boasts 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment and optional 8-inch Head-Up Display with turn-by-turn navi and speed information, Mood Lighting, a commanding driver’s view and an optional premium eight-speaker Bose audio system in a lounge-like, spacious cockpit.

Powered by Smartstream normally aspirated and turbo petrol, as well as turbodiesel engines for improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions, Seltos gets three auto transmissions — a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, a 6-speed slush box and a CVT, all with Normal, Eco and Sport Drive Mode Select. Stiff and light, Seltos get six airbags, Stability Management with traction and electronic stability control and standard and ABS braking, with Brake-force Assist System and Hill-start Assist and front and rear parking sensors depending on the model.

Expect Seltos in SA early in 2020.
